POKOTABI / Maruju
まるじゅう
At Maruju, diners talk about liver cooked briefly over the grill, thick-cut tongue, and kalbi enjoyed with lettuce and miso sauce. The drinks list includes draft beer and makgeolli, while rice dishes and noodles round out the menu.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Liver is often singled out as a memorable dish at Maruju. Diners who have tried it briefly grilled say they were surprised by how good it was; the key, they note, is not to overcook it. The menu also lists salt-grilled liver. You could start with the liver and build your meal around it, keeping an eye on the heat as it cooks.
Salted tongue is another option. One diner recalled the thick-cut tongue as a highlight, and said they ate the kalbi with lettuce and miso sauce. You can vary the seasoning to suit each cut of meat. Drinks to accompany the grilled dishes include draft beer, beer by the glass, highballs and fresh lemon sours. There is also makgeolli and chilled sake, while oolong tea and Appletiser are available if you prefer a non-alcoholic drink.
After the grilled meat, choose from rice, bibimbap, gukbap or cold noodles. Whether you want to focus on grilled dishes or finish with a more substantial meal, there are options to suit. Maruju is described as a dinner spot, and reservations are possible. If you decide to go, it may be worth arranging a table in advance.
